Oil ring is a kind of piston ring, which is divided into two types: ordinary oil ring and combined oil ring. Its structural shape has a great influence on the wear of piston ring and cylinder liner system.
The structure of ordinary Transmission Rings is generally made of alloy cast iron. A groove is cut in the middle of its outer circular surface, and many small holes or slits for oil drainage are processed at the bottom of the groove. The combined ring is composed of upper and lower scrapers and a lining spring that generates radial and axial elastic forces. This kind of oil ring scraper blade is very thin, has a large specific pressure on the cylinder wall and has a strong oil scraping effect; the upper and lower scraper blades are independent and have good adaptability to the cylinder; they have a small mass and a large oil return passage. Therefore, combined oil rings are widely used in high-speed engines. Generally, 1 to 2 oil rings are used on the piston.
Surface treatment of cylinder liner and piston rings can effectively improve the wear performance of the friction pair and prevent surface wear and failure. Common surface treatment methods include chrome plating, molybdenum spraying and hard coating. Chrome plating can make the friction surface smooth and have good anti-wear properties. The molybdenum layer has good wear resistance and tensile strength. In engineering practice, cylinder liners are generally chromium-plated and piston rings are molybdenum-sprayed. The heat resistance, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of molybdenum sprayed rings are low. In order to make up for this shortcoming, piston rings are generally hard-coated. Other common surface treatment processes include plasma implantation, surface lubrication treatment, surface composite treatment, etc.
